British Columbia Remix: Power Through Code, Music, and Culture
Are you looking to create an experience where technology meets creativity and social impact for your students? Through the Your Voice is Power program, students will dive into the world of Python, remix tracks from Indigenous and diverse artists, and craft original digital compositions that speak to themes of equity, identity, and reconciliation.
Through the EarSketch platform, students will use Python or JavaScript to remix beats from Indigenous and underrepresented artists, creating an original song that also serves as method for them to express their perspectives on the world.
EarSketch is a web-based program that requires no student information to log in and no prior coding experience required. As long as students have a device connected to the internet, all you need to do is project our lesson onto a screen at the front of the class and our team will take the lesson from there!
Aligned with both the Social Studies and ADST curricula for Grades 6–12, this session builds computational thinking, design skills, and digital literacy, while sparking conversations about social justice and Indigenous cultural awareness. It’s not just coding—it’s creativity with purpose, giving learners the tools to make their voices heard in powerful, innovative ways.
If you missed the Teacher PD Workshop describing this lesson, you can watch the recording here. If you watch the PD Recording you will learn how to be entered into a drawing for a $100 Amazon gift card.
