Virtual Live Co-Taught
Ontario Remix: Make Beats. Learn Code. Share a Story. Promote Social Justice.
Are you looking to create an experience where technology meets creativity, music and social impact for your students?
Through the Your Voice is Power program, students will dive into the world of text based coding (e.g., Python), remix tracks from Indigenous and diverse artists, and craft original digital compositions that speak to themes of equity, identity, and reconciliation.
Through the EarSketch platform, students will use Python or JavaScript to remix beats from Indigenous and underrepresented artists, creating an original song that also serves as a method for them to express their perspectives on the world.
EarSketch is a web-based program that requires no student information to log in and no prior coding experience required. As long as students have a device connected to the internet, all you need to do is project our lesson onto a screen at the front of the class and our team will take the lesson from there!
This session is targeted at Gr. 8 students in the curriculum areas of Social Studies, History and Geography, The Arts - Music, Coding, as well as Language - Communication, Media Arts.
Please note: this platform is applicable and transferrable for Grades 6 and up.
If you missed the Teacher PD Workshop describing this lesson, you can watch the recording here. If you watch the PD Recording you will learn how to be entered into a drawing for a $100 Amazon gift card.
Prerequisite Skills or Tech Tools Needed: Laptop/Chromebook required. Individual Headphones are beneficial. No previous coding experience necessary.
